bqd040.1 is a collection of remixes the label released during its early years. back then, the label intended to back up every release with a remix. the rhadoo remix was not just an amazing addition to pherox’s “gabrielle” track, but it was also featured on an ep released with new graphics. buck delivered an amazing interpretation of danilo schneider’s summer track “l’ecole”, that’s still very much a favourite at the label. last but not least, laurine frost’s remix of dana & nvelope’s “flowers”, one of dana’s first released tracks. frost gave the original a rich soundscape an extraordinary vibe. all of these remixes meant something special to the label, and now they’re all here for you to enjoy on one record…

laurine frost and denis kaznacheev teamed up to syud. their first ep ‘soho’ based on studio tapes which were recorded earlier in a small village not too far from moscow. all the three extraordinary pieces obviously contain modular synth, field recording elements and show the alloy of unique frost-kaznacheev style. tricky rumbling, heavy rolling basslines and crazy concept. joyfully intelligent tunes inside and outside of the dancefloors.

the second of the untld protagonist series, by furz, savours the spirit of alfred tailor, an influential figure in the development of the bright young artist, whose first ep is strong and smooth, with raw energy, sultry and primal. the title track is remixed by laurine frost, who inspired by the south american hypnosis of the artist, takes it further, developing the dialogue and deepening the percussive structure, whilst maintaining the mystique and spirit of alfred tailor. the second original work on the record, entitled torino soul is an ode to the automobile of alfred tailor, it opens serenely as if racing through the valleys of cordoba s horizon, scenery rushing by on a hot day. amidst this, the mechanical metal of the engine revolves in it place, as we are rushed forward, and the voice heard a memory both of the machine and the man, alfred tailor.

a set of minimal synth recordings, captured live with in-studio performance. these pieces are a tribute to the golden era of electronic music that mainly emerged in europe between 1978-1984 and is often described as minimal electronics, synthpop, synthwave etc. sinister melodies, shadows and frost making up a haunting, dystopian sonic environment. drum machines driving step sequencers and mono-synths, hand played polyphonic synthesizers, all enveloped by the industrial sound of the spring reverb. he only feels night within.

scott mou, known as one half of the duo jane – the folk techno drone duo he had with panda bear - aswell as part of manhattans famous record store other music, debuts with his soloproject queens. johan jacobsen describes the wonderful music of queens in oxymorons, colorful monochrome, myopic depth, sad joy, driven slowness, enlightened darkness, universal intimacy, ethereal earthboundness ... as it should be. queens is one of those wonderful artists who are hard to catch on the fly, who escapes easy definition. his music is an unexpected and unimagined universe ready to be explored, and it s a universe that is wonderful to be in. when dial records david lieske and peter kersten listened to a performance of their new york based friend in 2009, it was one of those unforgettable unique experiences you only have once in a long while these days. the idea of releasing an album was born. the production of end times involved other labelmates such as phillip sollmann aka efdemin (recording), kassian troyer (mixing) and hendrik weber, who once joined a life performance on stage with scott mou in 2012.

after ushering in a raft of releases from top talent over the last year that turned quite a few heads, we over here at thema thought it was time to assert our own opinions a bit more forcefully. we certainly appreciate all the support we garnered from the detroit drops courtesy of norm and terrence, and sliding over to the smallville end of the spectrum with rau and suburb certainly didnt lose the thread either. sometimes its easy to build a vibe on the backs of others rather than on simple merit though… with that in mind we have taken our own path since then, and the recent successes from beaner and laurine frost stand alone as the accolades keep rolling in. continuing on our outbound trajectory, we present the solo vinyl debut of gathaspar, the mysterious polish producer who has been making noise mostly in berlin and to the east.
